I can’t speak for other wedding photogs out there, but for me, a wedding day is a physically and emotionally demanding day. It’s 8 hours plus of hustling, crouching, climbing, carrying, running, dancing… all while concerning ourselves with good light, posing, waiting for the moment, the needs of our clients and their friends and family both in and out of our viewfinder… and through it all, we genuinely have a great time… after all it is still a celebration and a party and we love what we do. The day after a wedding I expect to be sore and exhausted and spent and I’ll usually take Sunday to view my photos from the day before and just chill out. The night before a wedding I won’t go out or even drink (too much…)

Unfortunately, this was the first time I got hit by a cold at the same time as a wedding. I woke up with with a swollen head, fatigued and coughing and sneezing and desiring nothing but my bed and a box of tissues. Regardless, nothing would stop me from giving my all for Cheri and Nate. Ill or not, their big day motivated me to power through and prove myself worth a damn. I love these guys, consider them friends and was determined to show them something beautiful. They did not disappoint. Cheri looked as beautiful as ever. Nate… the good ol’ boy from the midwest ain’t ‘beautiful’… but Nate’s the man and makes it look good in the monkey suit. They light it up together in front of the camera and Colin (a big boy at 4) was a constant source of comic relief and helped me catch some great moments with mom.

Once the party got going I nearly forgot all about my awful cold (till I packed up and got back in the car) and a little scotch took off the itch from my throat and I had a ball. Shout outs must be made to Sebastian Anzaldo, by far the best Frank Sinatra impersonator I’ve seen these last 12 years. Digs Studio has been buzzing on the blog lately and I’m really proud of how our work has been developing and the images we’re posting and how prolific we’ve been. I especially love to blog a wedding from clients our blog subscribers have seen in the past. Here’s some images from Stephanie and John’s wedding.

There’s no question that the wedding train on Stephanie and John’s tracks have seen a few bumps. Changing dates and venues, big life changes, law school and a move… whew… and I thought pulling off a wedding all by itself was a challenge. These two proved to me that the love they shared could overcome any obstacle. And that feeling they have for each other comes through every time I snap them in my frame.

Stephanie is a natural in front of the camera, so pretty! John is an awesome dude that treats his girl right. I have high hopes for these two! Congrats to the newlyweds, I hope very much they love their photos as much as I enjoyed making them.

Wedding season at Digs is back in full swing. It’s been a while since I’ve posted a shoot here. I’ve been spending a lot of time away lately. I’m very happy to be back and shooting and working with this season’s clients who I love. Denise and David’s wedding finally came around… David especially was passionate about their photos. They were looking to capture the candid moments of their day more than anything. Getting to know these two and how they felt about each other and their and their family and friends, I had no doubt they would make my job a breeze. I was just there ready with a camera. There was no shortage of laughter, tears, silliness and gestures of love all day into the night.

There’s so many moments I could’ve posted here but there’s only so much room here on the blog page. I can’t wait to show Denise and David all their photos and look forward to hearing about all the tears that will surely be shed (happy ones when they see them.

To the newlyweds, thank you for letting me part of your day and glimpsing into the life of your family. I was honestly moved. I hope I’ve done my job and made the lasting memory of your wedding just a little more special to you. Love, happiness and all the best.

Celina + Jordan – A princess wedding

Earlier this month I got the honor of shoot Celina and Jordans wedding. When Celina came in I knew I was going to love her and absolutely love photographing her. She was so easy in front of the camera. Their wedding was at a private residence, and let me tell ya, when I stepped in I felt like I was in my childhood dream. It looked like a life size doll house. I felt like a was photographing a princess. I hope you guys love your photos because I think we definitely got ourselves so great ones!

Ali and Steve, another Hamrick event!

Last weekend was my first wedding of the year, and who better to start it off. Last year my last wedding of the year was Danielle and Aaron which is Ali’s sister. I have grown to absolutely adore the Hamricks. They are such great loving people and definitely know how to throw a party. Ali was easily one of the most beautiful brides I’ve ever seen. When I unzipped the bag to take a photo of her dress my jaw literally dropped. No lie. I loved the vintage Americano decor, Thanks to the amazing Darby Fitzpartrick at Open Invitation the party looked absolutely amazing and couldn’t have gone more smooth. Thank you everyone for letting me be a part of your day. I had an amazing time and am so happy to say, I took some lovely photos. (how couldn’t I with such a good looking couple?)

Rhiannon and I had our first wedding of the new year last weekend, and what a great way to kick it off with the wonderful fun couple Andi and Michael. Everything about the day was perfect, from the timeline and coordination of the awesome team at Scheme Events, the always wonderful Carrie Key at DragonRidge making sure every detail was perfect for the reception, the weather could not have been any nicer, and the couple, bridal party, family and friends were all such a blast to be around all day long. A mariachi band kicked off the cocktail hour, and the dancing, laughter, and great times did not end until late in the evening. My First Year

Where in the world did 2011 go? I can’t believe the new year is creeping up on us already. In celebration of the beautiful New Year to come I wanted to show off some of my favorite photos from 2011. This was my first year shooting (so don’t judge to harshly jan-juneish). Seriously, so a big thank you to all of my amazing clients that trusted me with such important days in their lives. I must say, my first year couldn’t have been any better. You were all so much fun and easy to work with. But of course I have to give all the thanks and credit to my Digs team. Derek and Rhi, I couldn’t explain how much it means to me that you guys took a risk on a high school student and put so much trust in me. I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing today if it weren’t for the both of you. I love you both so much for everything you have given and taught me. And Michael, can’t forget Michael. You’ll forever be my “boss”. Thank you so much for all the knowledge you have shared with me over the years and for making weddings fun even though I hated assisting. I couldn’t have had a better teacher. Last but not least, my Grady! Thank you so much for the amazing friendship you have given me. I couldn’t ask for something better to take out of Digs. You’re a great guy and my best friend! GA SHOW! I am so excited for next year. I can’t wait to see my work grow. I only have two more years to be the best! Successful by 21 (Listen Bitches)! Vivianne and Eugene – Mandarin Oriental

My lost wedding of the year definitely was a beautiful one. Thanks to the lovely ladies at . We had the whole team there for this one, including our amazing intern Jamie, who assisted and second shot for me and did a fabulous job. Some of her photos were even blog worthy! Dang! Vivianne and Eugene were a very quiet couple but once that music came on it was definitely party time. Thank you everyone for ending my year with a good one!

When I heard I was going to be shooting a wedding on top of the world market center I was stoked. When I met Danielle and Aaron I knew this was going to be an amazing day. They are both such great people with HUGE personalities and just as much love. It’s not every day you see that. I make jokes about there being a “photo god” and he was definitely looking out for me that day. It was completely overcast. I honestly don’t think I could have asked for a better day overall, from the couple, to venue to even the reception lighting. It was PERFECT! Thank you guys for being so lovely. I love you both and your whole family!

Sara and George. Canyon Gate Country Club

Sara and George had an over the top wedding at Canyon Gate Country Club, full of great friends and family, a beautiful fall day, tear jerking dances and toast, fireworks and even late night snacks of french fries, hotdogs and sliders. Shelly Sampson, last years wedding professional of the year, did an absolutely amazing job of coordinating the day, which makes our job of capturing the day just that much easier. And what can I say about the newlyweds, not only did they plan and execute such a great day for their friends and family to enjoy, they were a great couple to photograph, hang out with, and it was a blast just being a part of their big day. Here is the photo slideshow Rhiannon and I have prepared, hope all enjoy.
